Welcome to the memorial site of the IKARON synthesizer family.

These musical instruments provide a semi-modular sound synthesis architecture on dedicated DSP hardware that comes as a PCI card for Windows XP/2000/98 computers. They were created and marketed from 2002 till 2006 by the Swiss company Frei Audiotechnik, which ceased operation by the end of 2006. Two generations of processors and operating systems later, IKARON is now obsolete from a technical viewpoint and the developer decided to abandon support. Several musicians are still using it for reasons of sound and variability - as does the developer - and it will probably work as long as PCI 2.1 compatible mainboards exist.
